Our top 10 disappointing horror films!
9. Child's Play
Chucky the little rascal. The ministers had already viewed Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky before venturing onto the original instalment. Now we wish we hadn't. The beginning was goofy and to be fair the Child's Play franchise isn't very serious.
Ok so if you don't know Child's Play is about a fugitive named Charles Lee Ray who after being chased by police and shot, uses voodoo magic in order to possess a must-have Christmas toy: A Good-Guy Chucky Doll. Charles or Chucky now in this case finds himself sold to a widowed mother and 'befriends' her son. Chucky then spends the rest of the movie trying to escape his plastic body.
What disappointed was the amount of frustration at the end of the film when Chucky is being slaughtered and somehow still keeps coming back for more.
Just freaking die already!
Dear God even Michael Myers wasn't this death--stubborn.
8. Jason X
Everybody's favourite dead slaughterer of kids on vacation, the reason this abysmal instalment doesn't appear higher on this short list is simple; we knew it wasn't good already.
It's Jason Voorhees...in space. He's been frozen and now he's onboard a ship in the future. Not just that he ends up being upgraded brutally (by accident) and is now deadlier than before. Now the crew are stuck on board with this undead serial killer. Sounds good? It's not.
However we did not prepare ourselves for how terrible this movie actually is, and I had myself whispering profanities throughout. Even the original I thought the mother was goofy with the 'Kill her mommy, kill her!' dialogue, however I could see where it was hitting the point and of course had a lot smaller budget.
But this?! No Excuses.
7. Hellraiser 3
I am likely cheating here because otherwise it would be higher on this list, if it wasn't for the fact I can't remember this movie at all.
I barely remember it except for a side character who 'can't dream' and a sex scene ending in a girl being skinned alive.
What I do remember very perfectly was the disgust and disappointment I felt after watching this sequel, I was planning on watching another film after this but once the credits rolled I went to bed.
I still feel a resentment to this film today.
6.The Skull
This Hammer Horror is boring. So absolutely boring I nearly fell asleep viewing it for Horrors Hidden Gems. I couldn't tell you the plot, I couldn't tell you the ending and I couldn't tell you much about anything to do related to it.
5. Nightmare on Elm St 3
I hate this film.
A young woman ends up in an asylum with other young adults and Freddy begins to torment and kill off each of them. Again sounds like a good concept...right?
Well it has the usual creative death scenes, the jokes by Freddy but the wheels fall off at the end when the teens come together to defeat Freddy. It turns from slasher movie to after school sitcom. They might as well have been selling you TMNT toys and warning you about drugs while they were at it.
I distinctly remember owning a physical copy of this movie and using it as a Frisbee to launch outside my window.
5. Thirteen Ghosts
A grieving family move into the mansion of a recently dead unknown relative who stores 13 ghosts in a labyrinth down in the basement. Of course they escape and hell follows. The house is covered in spell notes.
Now this is a remake of a 1960 film of the same name, this film on its own though is bad. The ghosts are terrifying, each one is creative but...it just falls to pieces by the end and I was met with this cheesy ending I did not enjoy.
